For incredibly complicated reasons involving the nature of K-space, and having absolutely nothing to do with Star Trek, we term operation of the MRI as “flying”.

In order to operate the Siemens Magnetom Trio you must obtain a flying license or employ someone with such a license. No person without this approval may operate the MRI, unless directly supervised by such a person. Persons found to be in violation of these requirements will be banned from the facility.

Persons wishing to take a flying test must first participate in the requisite Safety Training. The flying test will require a thorough knowledge of the safety guidelines for operation of the Siemens Magnetom Trio and for emergency situations that may arise at the Palmetto Health Richland facilities. Only after understanding the necessary safety and basic operating procedures should you arrange for your flying test.

To arrange for a time to have your flying test administered you must contact Dr. Gordon Baylis by email (gordon@sc.edu) and/or phone (803-978-7567).
